Recycling is fun, economical and reduce the quantity of objects that we throw away. You need an object ? You don’t always need to spend to get it. With imagination, a bit of time, we can get what we need. Reparing is also recuparation, it’s not always necessary to trow away the complete object, sometime a part can be save. You can copy our recuparation articles in this page, also our patterns and models, to make your own recyclings We will add from time to time.
For the working stockings with holes made of fibers/wool, we can patch or redo the complete foot in new. We keep the leg which usually is in good state and we cut away at the beginning of the ankle. We remove bits of cut wool to free the stiches. We put the stiches on broches and we knit the heel, the foot and we close. Here are pictures to help you and the pattern that I used. I use a thread with a fine wooly texture (Bernat Baby Sport) and I add a very fine coton thread (Bernat Handicrafter Crochet Cotton) to add resistance to piercing on all the foot. Both threads are knit together at the same time. There are many stiches on factory stockings and broches are very fine. To recuperate the stiches use broches with a very small diameter, so not to loose any stiches.
To use my pattern, make diminutions of stiches to come to the amount of stiches that you need and use broches number 4 or 5. Go on the page « Patterns and Models », choose « Pattern for complete stocking » and start your reparation in the pattern at « heel ». For women feet, I use 36 or 40 stiches and for men feet I use 44 or 48 stiches, depending of the size of the feet. This pair of re-done stocking will cost you .50 cents for both stockings. If you have threads laying around in your house it will be free.
Bale cord for hay
If you live in the country, you certainly have these cords for hay. They come in different colors and some are fine or thick. Each time that we use a hay bale, we get useless cords that we must throw away or burn. Bale cord is expensive, I suggest some ways to re-use them. Cut the cord as near as possible to the knot to get the longest cord. Re-unite the tips.
