Pattern for full stockings
4 needles with double points # 4 & 5

Abreviations :

Used stiches :

Jersey : always knit..
Ribs : 2 stiches knit,. 2 stiches purl.
Sample : 21 stiches.=10cm.

Direction

Normaly, an adult sock should have a contour of 8, 9 et 9 ½ inches for size small, medium and large. For children the size small, medium and large mesure 5 ¼ , 6 and 7 inches. The directions for this pattern are given for the sizes : in brakets (small, medium, large) for children, fallowed by the figures corresponding to small, medium and large for adult.

On needles. Number 4, cast (28, 32,36) 40, 44, 48 Sts. Divide the Sts on 3 Needles., keeping a multiple of 4 on each Nedls. Knit from 3 to 6 inches of rows (6 to 8 inches) of rows (2 K. 2 purl.) or till you have the desire lenght.

Change Nedls. Reorganise the stiches on the needles. For the heel. Half of the Sts. will be place on one Nedl (heel) and the other half will be divided equaly on the other 2 Nedls. Bring the thread at the beginning of the Nedl, which has the most Sts.

Heel

Only the Sts. of the heel will be knited,. the others stay on the wait.

Row 1 : * Slip 1 m., knit. 1 m. .* : always repeat these 2 stiches between ** till the end of the row. Turn.

Row 2 : *Slip 1 stich in the same direction like if you were knitting. On the other side, purl 1 stich *; always repeat those 2 stiches between ** till the end of the row. Turn.

Always repeat those 2 rows, till the heel measure 1 ¾, 2, 2 ½, (3) inches. End it by one row knit. The heel should be about square.

Heelpiece

Continue knitting,

Rw 1 (purl.) : Knit half of the stiches. plus 1- (8, 9, 10), 11, 12, 13 sts.; knit. 2.together., 1 st. purl., turn.

Rw 2(K) : Slide 1 St., knit.3 Sts., * slide 1 St, knit. 1 St., pass slip stich over the knitted stich *, knit. 1 St., turn.

Rw 3 (purl) : Slip 1 stich, knit.4 stiches, knit 2 together, knit 1 , turn.

Continue the same way, always adding one stich to knit in the center till all stiches be knitted. When we purl., we always take 2 together : when we knit, we reproduce what in between (**).

Take 12 stiches on each side of the heel.

Ankle

Rearrange the stiches on 3 needles.

1e needle : Half of the stiches of the Heelpiece, the stiches taken of the sides of the heel + 3 stiches. of the top of foot.

2nd needle : All stiches of top of foot, - 3 at the beginning and 3 at the end of the row.

3rd needle : 3 stiches of top of foot, the stiches on the other side of the heel + half of the stiches of the heelpiece.

1st Row : Knit all stiches of the first needle. Make a decrease (2 stiches together.) just before the 3 last stiches of the needle. Knit the stiches of the 2nd needle. Knitted the 3rd needle. Making a diminution after the 3rd stich. (1 slip stich, 1 knit,. Pass over le slip stich over the knitted stich.).

2nd row : Knit normaly.

Redo these 2 rows till you obtain the same amount of stiches that you had at the beginning of the stocking.

Foot

Knit straight till you reach the tip of your little toe. Arrange the stiches on the needles, in a manner that half of stiches (top of the foot) be on the first needle. Divide the rest of the stiches equaly on the 2 other needles.

Make a row of decreasing each two rows. Make these decrease at 4 places : 2 times on the needle with half the stiches., at the beginning and at the end of the row., at the beginning of the 2nd needle, and at the end of the 3rd needle. Always knit 2 stiches when de decrease at the beginning of the row. And 2 stiches after the decrease at the end of the row. When we decrease at the beginning of the row, we proceed the same way that what is in ** for the ankle. When the decrease is at the end of the needle, we knit 2 stiches together.

When there is only (12) 16 stiches., put together the stiches of 2nd et 3rd needles. On the same needle. Cut the thread, keeping a lenght of 12 inches. With a wool needle, wave the stiches together; that is pass the thread in the 1st stich of each needle in alternance, letting them drop when you go through. Continue till all stiches are attach.
